“Culturally sensitive information would have made a world of a difference”

Wayne Campbell

The collective challenge to improve cancer navigation and outcomes globally, is too big for any one organisation to deliver alone.

We believe in the power of collaboration and are building an organisation and product that is powered by our Community and partnerships - a mix of individuals, experts and organisations who share our vision and mission.

These include some of the best in cancer, tech, science, music and philanthropy, alongside those with a lived experience of cancer from our Community, all coming together to power our platform's development from day one.

During this pilot phase, we are working with our Community to test our early design concepts and prototypes as a means of researching and establishing the needs of those affected by cancer. We work in short, iterative cycles, which allows us to adapt quickly, test new ideas, and make improvements based on our community's feedback. We prioritise features based on the cancer community’s needs and ease of implementation, focusing on what will have the most impact and fast. This approach will lead us to a product experience that is truly co-designed with the cancer community.

A big part of this testing approach is to also ensure we deliver on our vision for Cancer Platform to leave people feeling empowered and with a sense of hope.

New Technology

We will be a technical solution to the global medical problem

Using an AI Large Language Model, Cancer Platform will answer questions by synthesising and structuring accurate information from a dedicated knowledge base of trusted sources (see our Assurance Process below), into an easy to use and understand way.

We’ll also use the information people choose to share to deliver platform updates, services, and stories that help to support people at each step of their journey.

Our Assurance Process

Building our knowledge base of trusted sources

At the start of our pilot phase, a small number of trusted public and non-public sources from cancer charities and leading health organisations will form Cancer Platform's knowledge base.

They will form a categorised and tagged library of information from which Cancer Platform will generate responses to people’s user questions, picking out what is most relevant and summarising and simplifying language where possible.

Choosing the 'right' sources for each query

Search algorithms are used to understand the context and intent of a person's question and content is then identified which best semantically matches the person's query and profile.

A Large Language Model is used to synthesise retrieved content and all sources are attributed to improve transparency for people. Feedback mechanisms will be implemented to improve our filtering criteria and response quality.

Ensuring our information is up to date and balanced

We will regularly check and audit our information sources, ensuring they remain high quality and accurate.

We will monitor information sources using change detection tools and will automatically update our knowledge base.

We will source our information, products and services from a range of trustworthy and reliable content sources. This will be shaped and continually tested with diverse community groups, to help us tackle the inequities and inequalities that exist in cancer navigation today.

Product Roadmap

Our Product Roadmap outlines what we’re building and the direction we’re headed.

In the next 3 months we’ll focus on key updates, improving the platform, and fixing any major issues. We’ll also work towards getting our pilot versions ready for testing and feedback throughout 2025 to our closed community of testers and oncologists.

In the future, we plan to launch in new territories, including the USA, Australia, and New Zealand, once we’ve refined the platform through our pilot and testing process.
